There is no safer or faster way to traverse our solar system than FluxCorp’s CMM-1.

There is no safer or faster way to traverse our solar system than FluxCorp’s CMM-1.

The CMM-1 is one of the most powerful and advanced vehicles for intra-planetary transport ever devised. Built around a state-of-the-art fusion torch drive powered by a FluxCorp-341 fusion reactor, the CMM-1 is capable of traversing the vast distances between major points within our solar system in mere months.

The CMM-1 is fully supported by a suite of advanced artificial intelligences which can fully control and handle issues with navigation, life support, and even personnel.

The ship has been built with redundancy in mind, with backups for every major system, including a miniature CT-7 type fusion reactor to provide emergency power.

Major Components

Hull/Frame

The CMM-1 is built around a central cylinder structure with a frame of plasteel built to house ceramic-alloy plates threaded with a network of hydrogel strands for stability and redistribution of stress. This framework is the core of the fusion torch drive system, as it allows the ship to travel at tremendous speeds without worry of buckling or warping.

Engines/Reactor

Set at the rear of the ship, the CMM-1’s torch drive and supportive systems are powered by a FluxCorp-341 fusion reactor. Utilizing a deuterium-based system, the reactor ‘burns’ by fusing deuterium nuclei and protons to form a helium-3 nucleus as the second stage of a proton-proton chain reaction in which deuterium nuclei are formed by fusing three protons.

Life Support

Life Support aboard CMM-1 is built around a three-tier system, with three primary, three secondary and miscellaneous tertiary systems.

Navigation

Navigation aboard CMM-1 is handled via the Flight Rational Guidance system (colloquially referred to by its AI designation of FeRGie). FeRGie is a Class-3 Artificial Intelligence (see the AI section below for more information) fully capable of interacting with the crew through natural language.

Secondary Components

Communications

CMM-1’s communications systems handle two basic functions. The first is general contact with satellite and planetary communication points throughout the solar system, including Mission Control back on Earth.

Command

The command console is available in extreme cases where the navigational AI (such as FeRGie) are unavailable. Instructions are only available to authorized users.

Cryogenic Couch System

For extended journeys (functionally anything outside of lunar distances), ships may be outfitted with a cryogenic couch system (CCS). As CMM-1 is configured to fly to Saturn over 150 days, it contains such a system.

AI Systems

The Flight Rational Navigation system (installed version 3.2.2). As Class-3 Artifical Intelligence FeRGie is able to communicate in conversational English, with full context and natural-language processors available. FeRGie’s primary job is to act as a conduit between the ship’s captain and crew and the navigational controls during flight.

The Base Automated Surveying post-Landing system (installed version 1.4). Another Class-3 AI, BASiL is designed for specific deployment to Enceladus, handling post-landing ship systems and pre-mining surveying.
